My six states in six days tour only lasted one state. Got to Louisiana yesterday and it was in the forties with light rain and wind chills below freezing. Got out and felt the air and decided I really didn't feel like riding after all. Drove on to Mississippi for the next one. Weather was a little better today as it was near fifty and only a slight breeze. Started the ride in the fog and the humidity was ninety-six percent. Course was in and around a national forest. Traffic was light and over all friendly. Terrain was rolling with long climbs and descents with the average grades around four percent. Had my cold weather gear on and despite being soaked and dripping from the humidity, my core temperature stayed up and was quite comfortable. Put it into the big chain ring for the first time this year as have restricted myself to the small one for one thousand miles to hopefully improve my spin. Felt good to push the big gear again. First part of the ride was on a highway but return trip was on a secondary road. It also felt good to be riding in a forest with actual thick leaves on the trees. The azaleas were also in bloom although they appear to have passed their peak. It also felt good to see the fields filled with long bright green grass. Most of my recent rides in East Texas prairie saw the cattle gnawing at a few tufts of grass growing out of the mud. Here it looked like the cows would soon drown in an ocean of green if they didn't get eating. Had a few dogs come out to the road but they didn't seem to be into chasing today. Hit a couple of hills at ten or eleven percent but they were short and went over them effortlessly. Turned out to be a really good ride.
