Really nice day today and the first day of the year I dared journey out without socks. Parked in the Walmart parking lot off I 20 in Forest, Mississippi and headed south into the national forest bathed in warm sunshine. Legs felt strong on the mild highway climbs and the crosswind was caressing rather than biting. The only downside on first third of the ride is weak shoulders and numerous logging trucks. On the upside is the smooth road surface and decent panoramic views. Made the turn at Raleigh and picked up a strong tailwind for a quick rolling eight miles. Made the last turn onto 501 north for my favorite part of the ride. This secondary road has a decent surface and gentle rolling tree lined climbs. Legs started to tire after forty miles and slowed down significantly over the last ten miles that hides one of the bigger climbs of the day. Low point of the day was the final two miles into a stiff headwind with empty legs. Still can't complain too much though as had fifty miles of favorable winds and fantastic weather for riding.
