My cycling is in a competition with my garden and lawn projects and is currently coming up short. With a storm system moving in bringing rain, snow showers and freezing temperatures it puts the current sunny weather in high demand. I did break away and did a shorter ride than I had planned with significantly less climbing. Rode Johnson Hollow with its one short climb. Started out for a change with a weak tailwind and spun easily for the first seven miles of grade. Started to feel a bit frisky and decided to push the climb and did so with moderate results. Stayed in the saddle and forced my way up the half mile climb and was able to spin over the top. Not really a very fast climb, but I pushed myself hard enough to see spots. Kept pushing throughout the Hollow and felt pretty good overall. Fun ended as I came out of hills and into a gusty cold north wind. Speed and enjoyment left at about the same time, but was able to keep my average speed at sixteen on the corners. Only had a couple of miles of the wind before hitting the big downhill. That downhill into the wind turned out to be a frigid experience and was glad when it was over. I was able to pick up a mile an hour on the average on the descent and caught a tailwind to finish off the ride. Traffic was backed way up do to construction on the SR 14 between Watkins and Montour. Not sure what they are doing or how long the construction is scheduled to last. Ride turned out to be more enjoyable than I had planned on.
