Rode the local rails to trails from Weaver AL to the Georgia State Line and returned. Trail has a really nice paved surface that is mostly pristine with only a few rough sections on the climbing section at the Georgia end. Planned on just doing fifty miles but aided with a tailwind the first twenty five miles of flat wooded land went quickly. I couldn't resist the urge to tack on another eight miles and make the railroad grade climb to the state line. It turned out to be the best part of the ride though. I wasn't too thrilled about riding another thirty some miles of headwind to return to the start once completing the climb but it turned out to be a fairly enjoyable overall. The first eight miles was a mild descent that cancelled out the headwind. I started to encounter more riders as I returned as the day had heated up and at least a dozen riders and even more walkers were using the trail. It made the miles go a little easier. Hardest part was the detour around the section between Weaver and Jacksonville that was closed due to the trail being washed out during flooding. I also had to make another detour to bypass some bridges that were getting new concrete poured on them. The trail pales in comparison the trails out west but are much better maintained then similar trails in the northeast. Turned out to be another low intensity spin day but really had no issues with the seventy mile length.
