Exceptionally nice weather today with light sunshine and temperatures in the upper sixties. It was my first ride of the year without leg coverings. Legs were a little tired after yesterday's ride but still were able to put out some watts for sixty five miles of the ride. Spent ninety percent of the ride sucking wheel, getting dropped on climbs and yoyoing off the back. Didn't dare push the hills very hard but was able to keep losses on the first and third climb to well under a minute. I was able to keep up on the second and shallowest of the climbs but was totally blown out on the last hill late in the ride out of Valois. My collapse wasn't complete as I was able to be nursed to the finish by some more wheel sucking. I was able to take a few good pulls, mostly on downgrades, in the first half of the ride but never got my nose in the wind on the return leg. Winds were supposed to be out of the south but that isn't what we experienced as we had a strong crosswind from the east for at least half of the ride. Still the winds weren't that much of a factor. Despite my slowing things down we made Geneva just shy of nineteen miles an hour and averaged a little over seventeen on the return section despite my legs being royally tenderized by the time we climbed to Lodi. Pretty good ride for early April.
