Stopped in South Carolina off I-20 at a Walmart parking lot in Camden and took a tour into a moderate wind with some mild climbing. Headed out on a secondary road to Longtown and was a bit worried as there was quite a bit of traffic and very little shoulder. The drivers seemed respectful though and gave me sufficient room. After three or four miles the traffic slackened significantly and I was riding into foresting areas and horse farms. Didn't feel very well over the first ten miles as seemed to be making more effort than I was getting in return. I checked my graphics and saw that I had been climbing for several miles into a headwind and that made me feel a little better. I thought I had finished with the climb when I reached the Hill Crest Lumber headquarters but it seemed poorly named as I kept climbing for several more miles but at a lesser grade. Finally reached the radio towers and turned out of the wind at pretty much the same point. Returned to Camden on a sparking state highway that had a good shoulder. Made good time on the twenty mile rolling descent aided by a stiff tailwind. Didn't push the pace much as I have a century to do tomorrow in North Carolina. Can't say I had a good ride as the first hour seemed a struggle but it evened out on the return leg. It was a bit cool but the sun felt fantastic.
