Took yesterday off the road bike and just rode the mountain bike around town. Really wasn't looking forward to today's ride as I picked up a case of the sniffles from riding in the cold rain and was still feeling tired. Wind was forecast to be in the upper teens as the day progressed, but I got out before the rush and only had to deal with a light fifteen mile an hour breeze for the first seventeen miles of the ride. Headed up Havana Glen and scored a 7.3 average that is a slight improvement. Pushed the wind hard to the junction but fell well below thirteen and far below the coveted fifteen average. Actually picked up the average a little on the second climb, as I had a crosswind on the approach and the headwind wasn't terrible until I got near the top over the last half mile of the hill. The wind on the downhill to Horseheads was rather aggressive and had to put in an effort to keep things moving. Finally got some relief as I went through the roundabout and got a crosswind for the last two miles to the five corners in Horseheads. Caught a wicked tailwind for the last thirteen miles of the ride and kept the speed in the upper twenties for most of the day and hit the fastest speed of the day on my sprint to the Millport line where I was over thirty-five. So climbing wasn't too bad today, but my efforts into the wind were lacking. Did quite a bit of work for a mediocre time. At least it wasn't raining.
