Decided against doing the Bristol Race on Saturday as the forecast called for cool weather and rain and with the recent poor climbing efforts didn't see the sense of getting up early and paying thirty dollars to get dropped on the first climb and then ride fifty miles by myself as the race had very few pre-registered riders. Figured it was time to get working on my climbing again so opted for my favorite climbing course-reverse Ridge Road. Got started up the climb and had a good thunk with every revolution of the crank. Got off the bike and thought I had a pedal or cleat problem , but my roadside inspection didn't reveal any apparent problems. Thunk seemed less if I used a lower gear so ended up easily spinning up the climb. The problem certainly didn't seem to help get me out of my recent funk which I was trying to climb my way out of. Considered turning around and coasting home, but decided to soldier on as had so few miles this week and figured at least I could burn some calories and work on my tan. Finished a most unfun ride and but the bike on the stand when I got home and determined I had trashed my bottom bracket. Ordered a new one on the internet and searched through some boxes of old parts and found an old bracket that wasn't ideal but certainly better than the one I took out.
