Today's ride was just a jaunt out to get in my weekend quarter. Since Falls Park and Main Street are closed, I headed out East North to Park Avenue then looped by the downtown Post Office and took Washington to the trail. Today was another windy day and I really fought it going up the trail. I rode through TR and onto the north end of the trail. I caught a rider in TR and we pulled away from the light at the same speed. The problem with that, when you aren't riding together, is that the front rider always pulls the rear rider. So the rear rider keeps overtaking the front rider. He and I rode along like that for the last 2 1/2 miles of the trail then we made an effort to separate ourselves. It's fine to ride that way in a group, but we were a pair of unknown riders that didn't especially want to ride together. I turned back south and was hoping to pick up some of that wind that I had been fighting. I did pick it up in places, some places it had been a crosswind, and other places it had turned around. Just south of Furman the motorcycle cop Mike Jenkins pulled in behind me. I paced him for about a mile. The motorcycle cops run along at 20 mph which is the speed limit. He passed me and I draftde on him for a while, then we both stopped at a down cyclist. He had a flat, but had everything under control. Coming back up to speed he got there quicker than I did, so I followed him back to the Cafe. I stopped and had a fresh strawberry smoothie and an oatberry shortbread. I bought a chocolate walnut cookie for Cis. The rest of the ride was uneventful but it was a pretty good ride.
