Weather turned out to be better than forecast as what little rain we had passed early in the day. Talked Mighty Young Joe into coming over and doing a metric with three good climbs. He had never been up by the Gran Prix track so we headed up hospital hill and out toward Coopers Plain. Didn't get much sleep last night as was up to 1:00 AM swapping out my bottom bracket. The used one I put in seemed satisfactory as my cadence was once again smooth and the thunk and hop was absent. We spun the seven mile climb out of town and had a decent climb though it was very far from a record setting. We were climbing into a headwind which didn't help the speed but would pay dividends as we would have cross or tailwinds for the final eighty percent of the ride. We kept good speed along Meads Creek and rode side by side most of the way and saw very little traffic until we got past East Campbell. Passed through Frog Hollow and were crestfallen when we saw no frogs. Crossing through Corning even went fairly well today as traffic was light and caught the lights favorably. Second climb was up Whiskey Creek. Didn't do much on the climb as we got separated when answering the call of nature and Joe answering the cell phone. Turned out to be another good climb although we really weren't pushing the pace. Coasted the long downhill from Caton to Elmira. Joe opted out of the third climb of the day up the western approach of Harris Hill claiming his seat was getting too familiar. Tried to talk him into it as the flat route added a few miles and went through the traffic lights and potholes of downtown Elmira. At least he could stand on the climb and probably spend less time in the saddle. Had a little bit of headwind on the downgrade of SR 14 to Montour Falls but it was primarily a crosswind. Had a fun ride with fairly good speed for the effort we put in.
