 Another Rainy Day
Had a window of three hours or so that the weatherchannel indicated there was a low probabilty of rain so I put my faith in the road gods and headed out today without rain gear. Started out trying to spin my way up Havana Glen without much success. Took awhile and legs were toast when I got to the top. Tried to push the pace to Alpine and make up some time, but legs were too heavy. Kept pushing to Van Etten and still felt sluggish. Legs finally kicked in heading up the first climb on Wyncoop and ride started going better. Lilacs are in full bloom and there must be quite a few of them on Wyncoop as the air was heavy with thier smell. Road surface has greatly improved the last couple of years and it is now one of the better roads to ride with its rural setting, rolling terrain and low traffic. Ended nice section by hitting showers in Chemung which were not really that bad but the air temperature felt like it dropped ten degrees. Roads dryed up after a couple of miles though and rain stayed away until I got over Jeruselum Hill and dropped down into Elmira. Elmira evened out the Wyncoop section by providing crappy roads, high traffic and urban decay and it was made even more pleasant by a steady rain. Eventually got out of civilization and headed back for the north country. Rain stopped at the top of the rise at Pine Valley and the remainder of the ride was fast, dry downhill on route 14 with enough tailwind to keep the speeds in the mid twenties. Had enough rain free miles at the end to arrive home dry.
