Another mild hiatus as I found many reasons not to ride in the last few days. When the sun was out the winds were in the twenties and thirties and I decided that was a decent excuse and opted out. When the wind died down the temperature dropped from the eighties into the fifties and the rain poured out of the skies. Wind today was in the low teens and the sun would occasionally pop out between the torrential rains and the temperature hovered a little below sixty, so I ran out of excuses and headed out for a short ride up Johnson Hollow in a very narrow weather window. Things didn't go well from the start as even with a brisk tailwind my legs didn't seem to loosen up on the long grade to Millport. Wind died down as I cruised through town and thought things were looking up and maybe I wouldn't have to do the headwinds on the way back. Sun came out and wind stayed slight as I worked my way up the climbing section of Johnson Hollow. Legs loosened up in the warm sun and the riding bordered on pleasant. That changed as the road turned to the north halfway up the hollow. It blew in some dark clouds and very cold damp air. Ride went quickly into the not so nice category as the clouds opened up a couple of miles ahead of me. Fortunately the wind slowed me enough that the storm stayed ahead of me and spared me from a good soaking. My feet and legs were not as lucky as I picked up the left over moisture from the road. Went slow down the long downhill to Watkins to keep the chill down. Did pick up a tailwind to Montour that cut time I would have to shiver. Really not what I was looking for in a ride but it the weather hasn't been very accommodating of late.
