Decided to head into the hills and start doing some hill 'training' but couldn't really see myself doing any good on the steep stuff at this point so headed up to Rock Stream and a twenty mile long gradual climb. Had a good tailwind assisted spin up the first hill out of Watkins and kept good speed after the turn into the wind at Rockstream. Weather was ideal and good spirit gave me a bonus and so kept it going out through Reading Center and to the top of Sugar Hill. Had a good average speed at the top and looked forward to the long downhill and finishing tailwind. Legs started to bog down on the final climb out of Townsend but recovered enough for the run downwards into Beaverdams. Bad things started to happen soon thereafter as my saddle sore had reopened or gone re-raw or whatever it is that saddle sores do and found my saddle to be very uncomfortable. Mostly stood up for a few miles but ended up bonking at the forty mile mark. Wasn't too bad though as the final eight miles was downhill and strong tailwind and easily coasted the remaining miles home. Average speed dropped rapidly though which is really opposite of my normal routine so I guess there is hope my climbing legs will return this year.
