Joe is leaving the Vampire State and moving to South Carolina, so we had one last ride today. We headed up the valley aided by a strong north wind. He took it easy on me but I still got occasionally dropped though it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Sun was out which made for pleasant riding. We made it to Horseheads without issue and started back into the wind via the Middle Road. We thought the newly sprouted leaves on the trees might give us some shelter as we headed into a more wooded area, but it didn't really help. So we climbed the rolling terrain with me maxing my heart rate just to keep an easy pace. Got dropped a few times but was able to put in a couple of good short climbs. Ride ended with a fast descent down Fitzpatrick with the gusting crosswind adding a little wobbly excitement. Did better than I thought I would but still couldn't get to a fifteen average. Rain and fifty degree highs blow in this evening so next opportunity for a pleasant ride is until at least Sunday.
