I was going to head over the mountain today but once I left the house I decided to do the Fairforest/ICAR route. As I was approaching the south end of the trail and climbing to 291 I came on a group of riders that were fully lugged. Most of them were walking up that hill as it is steep and they were carrying full loads. They told me that they were going to Savannah. I rode on toward the post office . When I came to Fairforest there was a motorcycle going straight away from me. He was accelerating when I heard a sharp pop and a long tire screech. I rode over to him and his chain was off the rear sprocket and wadded up around the axel and behind the chain guard. The wheel would turn a little then lock up on the chain. He was out in traffic so i blocked traffic and made them pass by in the other lane. Since it wouldn't roll and was fairly heavy I helped him drag it off the road and into a driveway. He was close to home, so he headed for the house and I went on to Mauldin Road. On the way back i saw Lou going to his truck to go home for lunch. I stopped by the disabled motorcycle and he was back on another bike with a pack full of tools. He had the rear wheel and chain both off. He told me that he had forgot to tighten one adjuster the last time he put the rear wheel on and that allowed it to turn and throw the chain. One tooth on the sprocket looked chewed over and a chain link was twisted. He had it all apart and was ready to make the necessary repairs to get it home and back on the road. The rest of the ride was uneventful and the high sun along with the heat was taking a toll on me.
