 Pennsylvania or Bust
Felt a little tired as I headed down SR 14 to Fassett PA. thought it might be the headwind that was causing the heavy legs and that it would ease up once the grade leveled out in Pine Valley. Didn't happen though and then it was I hope I feel better when I get into Elmira and out of the wind. Still felt poorly as I passed out of the city and back onto the highway. Struggled on the grades climbing into PA which was odd as I really didn't remember any hills being there before. Thought I might feel better when I turned in Fassett and headed over the climb to Mosherville. Once I got on the climb though I stopped thinking I might feel better and started thinking the climb was going to kill me. Felt very hot and barely kept the pedals going up the climb. Ate what food I had and drank most of my water figuring I could fill back up when passing back through Elmira. Spent most of the climb watching the odometer and ticking off the miles. Survived the climb up to the top near Bird Creek and did the good news bad news thing. Good news was that it was all down hills and tailwinds home; bad news was it was at least thirty miles to home, god awful hot and I was out of water- both internally and externally. Downhill and run into Elmira went well and thought I might recover but that ended when I stopped and got an Orange Crush from a vending machine and quickly downed it. It didn't set well at all and now I had a distressed stomach and seemed to hit every light in the city red. Kept it together and cracked out another twenty difficult miles to finish off the ride. Not sure why I felt so poorly and probably should have abandoned at the start of the ride as really had a poor day on the bike today.
