Today Steve and I drove to Easley to ride the newly opened Doodle Trail. It is an 8 mile trail that follows the old DoodleBug Railway between Easley and Pickens. The railway had no turnaround, so the engine could only face one direction. When it was going backwards with a train people said that it looked like a Doodlebug and the Doodlebug Railway was named. The new trail was opened yesterday. It still has some work to be done, but it's a nice little trail. The Doodle has a little more rolling hills than the Swamp Rabbit Trail has. Once we made it to Pickens, Steve thought that we should ride to Aunt Sue's over by Table Rock for lunch. He looked on his smart phone and saw that it was about 13 miles from Pickens to Aunt Sue's on Highway 8 and New Hope Road. It was a hilly ride, but we made it in fine fashion. At Aunt Sue's the only option was the buffet, so I had sweet tea with the buffet. I made a green salad and had a cherry cheesecake. Then I made a plate with meatloaf, mashed potaotes and gravy, and green beans. I ate small portions as we had another 20 miles to get back to the vehicles. I didn't want to see that meatloaf a second time! The ride back to Pickens didn't seem as long since we were covering ground that we had been over, but I was feeling pooped about 2 miles from Easley. Riding 40 miles isn't a big deal, but the high sun just wears me out. Steve and I had a good time and solved a lot of the world's problems.
