 Charles City
Century in Radford didn't work out as it was in the low fifties and raining. Went and got my T-shirt but had no desire to get pneumonia nor hypothermia so went back to the motel and sat this one out. Planned on riding the seventy-mile version of the course on Sunday as it was supposed to clear up and be warmer. Went to the start though and although it wasn't raining the humidity was still one-hundred percent and still quite cool. Looked like it was not going to get warmer for a few hours so opted to drive for a couple of hours to Charles City where it was at least a bit warmer. Opted for a short ride as really wasn't feeling very well and repeated a thirty-mile course I enjoyed earlier this year. It started at the Cap2Cap trail in hub but immediately headed uphill into the hills. Didn't generate any power up the first grade and was looking at a slow ride but finally got a bit motivated and tried to push through the malaise. Got some chest pains for a bit and my breathing had a wheezing aspect to it so figured I had some chest congestion. Kept at it though and felt better after a few miles. Course crested after seven miles and other than a few short climbs was mostly downhill or flat. Turned out to be more of a fast day than a touring day. Traffic was light and roads were smooth and had a good time. Last ten miles was on the rail trail back to Charles City. Not many bikes on the trail today. Did try to race an aircraft that was following above the trail. It was only a motorized paraglider but it was still an aircraft. Was able to stay with him although he wasn't really going straight. Finally started putting out some good watts over the last few miles and finished strong. Turned out to be a good day despite the slow start.
