 Memorial Day Ride
Today I took off in mid-morning to get a ride up and down the trail. I rode to the Swamp Rabbit Cafe and met Cis for some breakfast. We split a bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on stecca bread. I had a strawberry doughnut with a cup of dark roast coffee and Cis had a strawberry scone. After breakfast I rode on to the north end of the trail then turned back south. I stopped at Dukes Doggs for a glass of lemonade and put ice in my water bottle. I talked with Kristy for a while and told her about Steve and I riding the Doodle Trail and over to Aunt Sue's. The trail was getting pretty crowded on the ride back south, but I took my time picking my way through traffic. I turned off the trail at Linky Stone Park and cut through downtown by the Peace Center. Once back in Cleveland Park I stopped by the Rudolph Anderson Memorial and the Greenville County Vietnam Memorial.

The Rudolph Anderson Memorial has plaques explaining much of his life and his death in a U2 during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Even though he was killed in a U2 the memorial has an F-86 Sabre, which is what he flew in Korea. The U2s were still in use and classified when the memorial was originally built.

The Greenville County Vietnam Memorial has several tributes to the fallen in Vietnam and lists the names and the date of passing for every Greenville County man that was killed in Vietnam. I took the time to read all of their names and there were also several Vietnam Veterans representing there in their memory.

I rode on through the park on my way home when I ran into Kimberly and Melanie. They were just starting a ride and wanted me to go with them, but I told them that I was just finishing. Kimberly wanted to know what was open in TR for food. I told her that I had stopped at Dukes Doggs as I know that she stops there often, but I had seen that the Tandem Creperie and Whistle Stop Cafe were both open. A nice little ride today.

On the north end there are two signs about 1/10 of a mile apart that put up the temperature as part of the scrolling announcements. Today they both read 73 degrees when I passed by. Two days ago one read 71 while the other read 86.
