Ride started out really hot and humid today but ended cool and very wet. Had planned on doing a metric with four good climbs and a stop at the ice cream stand in T-burg. Felt fairly good at the start other than the painful knot on the inside of my knee that I got at the race on Sunday. It doesn't really affect my riding and really only aches a little but is painful to touch. Started out well on the climb to Odessa but slowed up during the middle section into a headwind. Had to sprint over the top just to get a mediocre time and showed no improvement over last week. Pushed the headwind to my timecheck at the Junction and came up ninety seconds short. Still felt good in the headwind just couldn't get up to the speed I needed. Next climb up through Arnot Forest went better but had a following wind up it. Still haven't scored a bear sighting on this road but it still is a nice stretch of low traffic climbing. Got kind of lazy on the descent to Ithaca and mainly coasted but was content with the ten miles of mid-thirties speeds with little effort. Next hill was up 96 to Trumansburg. Pushed a bigger gear than I was comfortable with to try to beef up my climbing muscles a little. Really is a long grade more than a climb but not one of my favorites as there is little shoulder and lots of traffic for the first mile or two. Had a brief shower going through Jacksonville. Had a few big drops but it didn't last long. Felt pretty good as I stopped for icecream in T-burg but that didn't last long as I could hear the emergency weather alerts being broadcast on the radio at the stand. Checked the radar and saw a large storm was scheduled to be between me and home at the same time. Got on the bike and started up the climb to the tower past Searsburg. Figured if I could get to the top of the climb before the storm hit I could try to outrun in with fifteen miles of downhill. Didn't make it though as got about halfway up the six mile climb and could see the storm coming over the hill. Turned to the south on Stillwell and thought I might be able to go around it. Worked pretty well until Renyoldsville where the sky opened up. Sought shelter in a stand of pines and had to wait around fifteen minutes for the deluge to end. Actually stayed pretty dry. Air temperature dropped twenty degrees as the storm passed and had a cool wet ten mile ride home. Rain had let up quite a bit but still ended the day with two soakers.
