Ride Description: W/Sue... Maybe they should change the name of the park to Mud Cut. We hit a couple huge mud pits after a couple miles, and they were sections of trail that were re-routes around wet areas.
We turned around and went looking for a dry place to ride. Not much.
Time to go road biking.

Ride Description: W/Sue... A very enjoyable leisurely ride. We took Stone Bridge Trail into Roscoe for ice cream. Rode back on Stone Bridge to Burr Oak, then back through the hilly subdivision and over to Briarcliff Subdivision for more hills. The house we think belongs to Danica Patrick's parents, is for sale.
Computer broke at fork mount at Ice Cream place. Had spare parts at home and fixed it.

...Should change its name to "Mud Cut"
Rock Cut is less than 20 minutes away and has some decent mountain bike trails. But last year I only rode there 5 times.
Problem is, the combination of soil type and a lack of IMBA standard built singletrack makes the place more suitable to mud bog racing than mountain biking if we get a lot of rain. And we got a fair amount of rain so far this Spring. Though not even close to what we got last year.
The two mud pits in the photos are fairly new sections of trail that are actually re-routes "designed" to avoid a section of trail that had serious drainage problems. When they were built the "tread" was about 12 inches wide. Now look at it.
This section of trail is not even a "problem area".
We got to this point and turned around. We rode to the other side of the park to look for drier trails without much luck. We never even got to the areas that are usually bad! And after seeing this, we didn't even think about riding in areas with terminal mud problems.
Riding in the mud is not much fun, it damages the trails, and doesn't do your bike any good either.
Conditions were even worse than this last year for the "Do The Rock" race. The trails were damaged so bad, they decided not to have a race this year.
Now that I have a place to ride in my back yard, I doubt if I'll go back to Rock Cut unless we experience a long drought. Or they make some serious changes in the trail design there.
We went home and got out the road bikes and went on a really nice ride.
