Very warm again today and with a stiff southern wind. Another day of working on climbs with one highway climb up New Corning, a steep climb up the backside of Chambers and a final step climb up Ridge Road. Legs felt really good starting out with the tailwind to Watkins and had a better than average climb up Corning. Tried to keep a steady pace as the elevation increase continued into the headwind to Chambers. The legs started feeling weak on the approach to the Chambers climb and pretty much gave out on the steep section. Standing didn't accomplish much and sitting and spinning was out of the question due to the aggressive slope. Survived over the top and started the long descent to Horseheads. Legs were totally numb and couldn't even get them to spin on the downgrade. Ended up coasting. Tried spinning through on the flats and rollers to the next climb and hoped the legs would recover. Unfortunately the legs were totally trashed and the climb up Ridge Road was pretty lame. Fortunately I had a stiff tailwind to provide some aid. Also fortunate was that the last six miles of the ride is all down hill and more coasting was forthcoming. My legs and I were very relieved when I finally got home and got off the bike. Painful day.
