 Whiskey Creek
Still a little on the cool side but wind was light and out of the south today, so it was a pretty good riding day. Planned on doing two good climbs today and a fair amount of mileage. First climb up Stueben street and up CR 16 by the track went well. Stood up for a good section of the steep section at the bottom and had good spin after that. Got held up due to paving below the track, but wait wasn't too bad and flagman let me get a head start on the traffic. Run to Coopersplains was pleasant today due to not having to fight a wicked headwind the whole way as usual Things even went well through Corning as I hit many of the numerous lights green. Did some good climbing up Whiskey Creek though it is really hard to judge when climbing alone. Felt good anyhow. A light rain started to fall as I climbed Whiskey and continued on the downhill back to Elmira. Wasn't falling hard enough to cause a soaking and helped with the cooling on the climb. Thought I would have a strong ride with a decent average as I was in good shape and had twenty five miles of downgrade and a light tailwind ahead. Ride went south though as I picked up a 10p finishing nail in my rear wheel crossing the bridge just before getting on 352. There was insufficient sealant in my tubeless tire, since the tire was nearing the end of its life, and I hadn't recharged it in quite some time. Stopped at the boat launch and tried my luck inserting a tube and trying not to pinch it. Have had very little luck preforming the operation in the past. Tire inflated with my handpump though, and I was again road worthy. Must have had a minor pinch though as the tire deflated after five miles. Pumped it back up and made it another three miles before repeating. Ended up inflating every two or three miles over the last twenty miles of the ride. At least the rain stopped as I reached Elmira. First section of the ride was excellent but after the flat not so much. At least I didn't end up walking or calling in an airlift to get home.
