 Cap 2 Cap Trail
Plan was to ride the cap 2 cap trail between Richmond and Williamsburg VA. It is a fairly flat fifty mile paved trail. I had done half the trail last fall between Williamsburg and Capitol City and wanted to repeat that section and finish off what I didn't do last year as well as harden my legs with back to back centuries. Got up in Richmond after putting in a bad night and found it to be in the forties and raining. Checked the forecast and it said the rain might stop in Williamsburg around three. Abandoned my plan as didn't want to spend another day in the rain as I already am ill. Drove to Williamsburg and dozed in the truck at the trailhead until eleven when the rain slackened and became more of a mist. The temperature at this end of the trail had gotten up to fifty two but with a gusting north wind it felt a bit raw. Decided to ride at least ten miles out so at least I could claim riding for the day. There were a few other riders out also heavily bundled. First couple of miles was across open fields and the wind made it most unfun. The trail though enters the woods and stays there for the most part after that and riding became at least tolerable. Cranked the ten out slowly and decided to add another five as I really didn't have anything else to do but go to a hotel and watch television. After fifteen I spotted a small blue patch of sky and thought maybe the rain was finally breaking. It wasn't but it was only occasional light rain, so it wasn't soaking me. Rode to the twenty five mile marker just a little shy of a trail head and decided I'd had enough and would finish it off tomorrow. Ended up with fifty slow damp miles. Uninspired day but I did score fifty miles.
