Really hot today and the sweat dripped heavily and steadily as I made the nine mile climb up Mud Lake on the way to Wayne. Climbed steadily and tried to keep the cadence up. Only the first mile has any steepness to it but the rest of the miles are unrelenting. So ended up spending a little less than an hour on the first climb. Reward though is a two mile decent on a straight section with good surface down Sebring Hill. Speeds of over fifty miles an hour are common here and today hit it easily today. Got out of the saddle and hammered through some construction in Tyrone but it didn't last long as the legs were tired from the lengthy climb. Hit the shade along the east shore of Lamoka Lake for a terrific section of the ride. For the first time this year lake water seemed inviting rather than just plain cold as I rode along. Hit some more climbs out of Wayne toward Dundee but spun them easily. This section of road has a really poor surface but makes up for the cracks and bumps with some terrific scenery. Colors were really vibrant today with the lush greens from the trees that are finally filled out tothe large beds of vivid orange flowers on the road banks. Hit small steep climbs as I passed through the farms and it smelled terrific as some of the farmers were mowing the hay fields. Spun through Dundee and made a shallow climb to the top of the ridge and was rewarded by a terrific view of Seneca Lake as I coasted through the vineyards back down to Lakemont. Wind back down to Watkins was mostly a cross being from the west so had a good finish to the ride with another long coast down into town. Was slightly amused when an elderly lady crossing the road yelled at me that I had to stop when pedestrians were in a crosswalk as I rolled toward a stoplight. Wanted to point out to her that she was fifteen yards from the crosswalk and was, in fact, jay walking if she crossed where she intended, but I didn't want to spoil my good ride, so just shook my head and continued rolling up to the red light. Turned out to be one of my best rides of the year despite the bad roads and hefty amount of climbing.
