I took off today and rode to the Cleveland Park to ride the Trail. Instead of cutting around Falls Park by way of downtown I rode up Furman Way and crossed the new footbridge and came out on Augusta Street. It goes straight onto River Street and to the Trail at Linky Stone Park. The streets were still wet from earlier rain and the trail was very wet and the humidity was very high. I stopped at the Swamp Rabbit Cafe for a latte and a strawberry donut. On the ride up the trail there was a large snake crossing the trail just south of Furman and several women on bikes were in a panic over it. I rode by it on its tail side while it slowly crossed the trail. I have seen more snakes on the trail and in the streets in the last month than I have in the last 5 years of riding. I'm not sure what is up with all the snakes. They are getting hit on the streets and I am seeing them every time out on the trail.
I rode to the north end then turned back and rode south. I stopped at the pocket park on Sulphur Springs to refill my water bottle and get a drink. The rest of the ride was uneventful but a good ride.
I changed front tires after yesterday's ride as the tread split it. It had over 4,000 miles on it. I put on a tire that has about 2700 miles but still has some life in it. I have a new tire for the next one. I need to get some tubes and another frame pump. I burst a tube putting the front on and my frame pump fell off last week and was run over by a car. I thought it was okay, but I tried to use it when changing tires yesterday and the head was slightly flattened. The front tires usually get about 3500 miles and the rear about 2500 miles.
