Nice day for riding for a change and so headed off to do some climbing. Started off on Havana Glen with some steepness and put in a decent effort. Headed out towards Van Etten to check out a couple roads I've ridden by dozens of times and wondered where they went. Saw another rider at the junction and followed him for a mile before he turned off in Cayuta. Got to one of the climbs I wanted to check out and it was named McDuffy Hollow. Didn't figure it would be too bad of a climb being a hollow road and it wasn't. It had a mild climb at the bottom before becoming a gentle rising slope. Rode it for a couple of miles but was getting close to coming out on SR34 and wanted to avoid the highway. Turned off on the Brink Road that was a serious climb. It had a section at fourteen percent. It then continued with an eight percent grade. Climbing wasn't too bad today and got a brief period of warm sunshine on the wall. At the top of the hill I got a good view of the thunderclouds that were amassing to the west. Had a couple of miles of downhill that I did a really poor job descending. Road surface was in disrepair with shallow potholes where the top later of macadam had disintegrated and left patches of the previous surface exposed. Pretty much coasted and dodged the holes. Ended up on Langdon Creek road before descending into Newfield. Had one good climb coming out of a gully that was twelve percent. Wind was picking up and rather than heading back into it climbed up to Trumbles Corners then went through Enfield. Finished off with a fair climb out of Mecklenburg. Got the heartrate up over the final couple miles of headwind coming back on Skyline. Climbed well and descended poorly today. Getting old and rather go slow than risk a crash. Still a good day on the bike,
