 Hill Day
Got the weather I was expecting yesterday today so went out for some climbing. Started out up Havana Glen and had a decent climb to start off. Only averaged seven miles an hour for an average average time but felt good none the less. Tried to get the speed up to the junction and didn't do too well so lots of opportunity for improvement. Got a little better before the second climb through Arnot Forest. This climb is a step climb with some serious grade in places. They are steep enough that on the two and three percent upgrades between the steps, it actually feels like you are pedaling downhill. Got to the top without too much struggling and looked forward to doing some downhill bombing into Newfield. Unfortunately, the downhill had been recently oiled and stoned. So rather than a high-speed descent rolling over the occasional short climbs, I had to descend slowly and muscle up the grades. Got to the bottom and started the third climb to Trumbles' Corners. This climb was the easiest of the day and is really a couple of minor climbs back-to-back. Rolled through the Trumbles' Corners and was a little put back as my great-aunt used to have a house there and it is gone without a trace. All that is left are my memories of it as the place is totally changed. My past has been overwritten. Did get to do some fast descent into Enfield followed by a good deal of upgrade to T-Burg. Legs were still feeling good as I ascended the final climb up through Searsburg to the tower. After that it was all downhills and tailwinds to home. Climbed reasonably well today but now have to start connecting the climbs with some consistent speed. So was able to do four thousand feet of climbing fairly weel which gives me a little more confidence about heading into the mountains at the end of the month.
