Decided today would be a good day to start riding some steeper climbs as I really have only been climbing hills with grades of ten percent or less. It turned out to be a very summer like day with a hot sun and little wind to cool things. I quickly found out on the first climb that I was overdressed with the long sleeve T-shirt under my jersey. Really didn't try anything special on the steep climb up Skyline and just stayed in the saddle and spun a low gear. Seemed easy at the start but bogged down over the top which made the climb a challenge and mildly painful despite the low effort. With the steep climb out of the way in the first two miles the remainder of the ride was fairly entertaining. Legs felt really loose today and made good time on the secondary climb to Logan and had a very fast run back down SR 414 from Hector to Watkins. Added a loop up Old Corning Hill and down Johnson Hollow to complete the ride. Old Corning is a low level climb and just stayed in the saddle and climbed steady. The three climbs really dampened my average speed today but ran hard the last twenty miles and felt fairly strong. Turned out to be a really fine day for riding. Found out I can still climb the steep stuff only still not very well.
