Today's ride was one of my old favorite routes. It starts & finishes from my house, includes a few short climbs and one medium climb, as well as some flat stretches of road way.
The wind was a hindrance the first half of the ride, limiting my avg speed to 14.4 mph. Then came the flat stretch (Earth City Expressway/MO Bottom/Aubuchon), with the aid of a tailwind I was cruising at 21-22 mph – helped raise my final avg to 15.4 mph. Then it was time for the mile plus climb up Aubuchon into Florissant. Its one of the climbs that gives you a reprieve when you think you have reached the top, but then the road bends to the left and it starts climbing again, not quite as steep, for a couple hundred more yards - a great cardio workout.
I do this route only a couple times a year in recent years, compared to almost once a week several years ago, so it was an enjoyable time visiting ‘an old friend’.
