Took a day off the bike after the bout of empty legs on the last ride. Went out for a short ride with a couple of fairly easy climbs. Headed to Watkins and legs didn't feel too bad which isn't unusual with a good tailwind. Used the tailwind to climb out of the village on SR 14. Wasn't able to maintain a ten average but was keeping a better pace than last time. Hill has the first crest at Gabriel's Junction and then is rolling grades to the turn to Rock Stream. Tried pushing the pace and got the average climbing nicely by the turn. Second climb was two miles of a three or four percent average up the back road to Reading Center. Used to be a big chainring event but now adays it often involves the small one. Had a decent spin and got to the top after a steady pace. Downhill through Irelandville was entertaining and got the speed into the mid-forties coasting. Average was above fifteen through Watkins but was a bit worried that I would lose it since I now had to return home via the bottom fifteen percent section of Havana. Tried to boost the pace through the swamp but legs had nothing and struggled to maintain a fifteen pace. Got through town okay and as expected lost two tenths on a tenth of a mile section of mildly painful Havana. Did get home above fifteen that would be encouraging for March but no so much for June. Still ended up to be a pleasant summer ride.
