 Wyncoop Creek
Took a few days off to try to get over feeling low and getting crushed in a race last Saturday. Sun has finally returned and it looked like a decent day to ride with the winds not gusting today. Headed down to Chemung via Wyncoop Creek with intention of buying a lottery ticket and eating some junk food figuring the seventy miles would burn off the calories and sugar and fat with stimulate my pleasure centers. Had a good climb up Odessa hill aided by a tailwind and crested in a couple of ticks over eight minutes which seemed pretty good after the horrendous climbing of last weekend. Kept some pressure on the pedals and was rewarded with a good run to the Junction- finishing a minute or so below a good time. Backed off a little through the rollers to Van Etten but kept good momentum over most of them arriving at the base of the climbs at over seventeen. Enjoyed the ride down Wyncoop. Still a great riding road thought it is quite a bit more civilized than it was when we first started riding it thirty years ago. It is a little disappointing as I miss the thrill of riding through the back woods. I'll have to ride up toward Hornby and see if there are any backwoods left within fifty miles of here. Rolled into Chemung well over eighteen and celebrated with Snowballs and Vanilla Coke. Purchased my lottery ticket and was rewarded with a fifty dollar purse. Won't be able to retire on it but it should pay my fuel bill for the next dozen rides or so. Avoided Jerusalem Hill on the way back and opted instead to do the long grade to Breezeport to cross the ridge. Miss doing the climb but enjoy the ride more without the potholes and traffic lights of Elmira. Lost some speed off the average over the rollers but started picking it back up with a good run to home down SR 14 and finished off another good ride.
