 Three Climbs
Decided to to another medium distance ride as legs still felt okay. Opted to ride north into the wind with some manageable climbing involved. Started out up Old Odessa and put some effort into it and thought I was having a good climb but it turned out to be another nine average. From Odessa headed out to Mecklenburg. Legs still felt okay after the first part of the climb so decided to push the pace to Mecklenburg which would put me about an hour's riding. After that I planned on touring speed to Interlaken for the next climb then cruising the last hour home with a tailwind above the lake. Had good speed to Mecklenburg and was able to stand and power over the small rises and kept a strong pace on the downgrades. Ended up a with a thirteen that was the same as last time. Showed some improvement though as this ride was into the wind and last one had a strong tailwind. With the training duty checked off I planned on just hopefully some relaxed riding. Continued to Trumansburg at a fair pace aided by the downgrade and not really hampered by the headwind. Was surprised as I rolled into T-Burg by a group of cyclist rolling out of a park there. Seldom see any cyclists anymore at least until mid summer when the tour groups roll through. They were going a different direction so couldn't find out their story. Some minor climbing occurs out of T-Burg then it is gently rolling until Interlaken. Second climb out of Interlaken is about three miles of fairly steady three percent. I gently climbed the gentle climb. Would have liked to go faster but legs were starting to falter. It was not a fast climb but neither did I suffer. Once at the top of the hill it is a short downhill to Logan onto SR 414S with more fast downhills and lake views. Enjoyed the ride until Valois where the third climb starts. It is pretty much only a mile of five percent with some more elevation gain until Hector where the fast downhill returns. Section on to Watkins is good riding except for the thin shoulder and occasional heavy traffic though it usually isn't too bad on weekday mornings. I was comfortably over a fifteen average until passing through Watkins where the traffic situation tends to dampen the speed. Still felt fairly good after the ride so distance doesn't seem to be an issue as long as I pace myself. My climbing is still abysmal and still needs some work.
