I've been thinking about trying a different route to/from work, for something different, and to see if it would be a little shorter & quicker. Finally tried it on the way home tonight, and it's not a viable alternative. This route turns right onto Lackland, instead of left, to go back across I-170 and follow it to where it ends between the Rock Rd & Natural Bridge.
First, Lackland Rd itself isn't all that great. There is a shoulder, but between the parked cars and its surface is rough & broken up in several spots. So it's better to stay on the road itself, which was OK as there wasn't but a couple cars that passed me and the road's surface wasn't all that bad, though it was bumpy from the concrete seams, and a few holes to avoid.
Second, where Lackland ends it is about 80 yrds of gravel road to the pedestrian bridges. The one bridge to Ramona has brush grown through the fence and would be like riding through the jungle to get across it. The other bride, over I-170 requires climbing three flights of stairs - after crossing I-170 the route wasn't too bad, but not with the hassle.
Guess I'll stay with my tried & true route.
