 Wyncoop Creek
Decided to ride hard today rather than ride easy today and race tomorrow. Have a race on Sunday in Naples and had planned on riding the Tour of Otisco tomorrow. Had reservations about riding Otisco as it has gone from an open race to a licensed race. Prefer layed back racing rather than paying a group to add a level of bureaucracy. The race and course are the same but I don't get a T-shirt and generally get to pay more. Deciding factor was yesterday's timetrial. Had I averaged over 25 I would have felt I was riding well enough to race twice this weekend, but having failed that I'll only attend the LDA Classic on Sunday. So tried my legs on the first climb to Odessa and had my best time of the year but still thirty seconds short on where I need to be at this stage. Didn't feel well climbing but time said it was okay. Did the math and thought I could make the Junction in less than thirty but lost it in the last mile and came up fifteen seconds short. Speed kept climbing through the rollers to Van Etten and had a real good climb up the start of Wyncoop. Continued to ride strong on Wyncoop and was real happy with the condition of the pavement now. It has been getting pretty broken up in places over the past few years but is now some Grade A surface. Sailed along nicely and pulled into Chemung with a good average speed. Rode back on the new road along 17 next to Newtown Battlefield. Lost a little time going through some construction in Lowman and was surprised by a few new climbs on the road. Legs gave out at mile forty-two and had to back off the pace and ride defensively. Getting through Elmira was as usual not a highlight of the ride but eventually got back to Horseheads and once through Hanover Square got back on home turf and enjoyed the run back home. Great weather and light winds made for a good ride. Had forty-two strong miles and finished the day happy but with tired legs.
