 Back to Climbing
Resting heart rate went down a little so some recovery is occurring. Unfortunately, the weight is shooting up and so decided to take a long ride today with a couple of good climbs. It was fairly cool when I started the first five mile climb up Stueben St and unto CR 16. Climbed well and felt good again on the bike. Took a while to do the thousand feet of climbing but eventually got onto the downgrade to Monterey and had good speed and power. Wind picked up though and legs got heavy, and speed dropped considerably. Toned things down and still had enjoyable ride to Coopers Plains. Fun stopped though as I worked my way through the streets of Corning and started to notice it was getting pretty hot. Thought I would recover on the climb up Whiskey Creek as I would get to do some riding in the shade. Plan didn't work out though as it was high noon while I made the four-mile-long climb and got no shade. Climbed comfortably though and really didn't have to struggle. I had ridden thirty odd miles to do the climb and was a little disappointed that it wasn't more spirited. Reaching the top of the climb left me with thirty -five miles of fast downhill and tailwinds. Enjoyed first five miles of downhill though ended up coasting most of it. Didn't have too much problem getting through Elmira today as the place was quite dead mid-day. Stopped at Eldridge Park and topped off the water bottle as I had been really sucking it down today. Did quite a bit of coasting on the way home. Saw another rider in Horseheads that looked familiar, but I couldn't place him though was sure it was someone I used to ride with on Tuesday nights a decade ago. Ended up getting nearly seventy uninspired miles though I did ride well over the first hour. Hopefully I burned a few calories.
