I headed out east North in the heat to town and out to the SRT and on to the gazebo in TR and home again. At the back gate at Furman there was a young coed on the side of the road with her four-way flashers on, so I stopped to see what was wrong. I've always been a sucker for a damsel in distress! She had finished summer school and was hauling her stuff home but didn't have her trunk mount bike carrier on tight and it was flopping around on the car. She didn't know how to tighten the straps, so I tightened them for her and helped her put the bike on it. On the way home I was nearly off the SRT when something hit me hard in the helmet. It popped pretty good, but there was nobody around and I didn't know what it was. So I stopped, took off the helmet, and found a yellow jacket stuck in the velcro pad. Fortunately I wear a Walz cap under my helmet as I am pretty allergic to stings and bites. Even though the heat was a killer, it was a good ride.
