Thunderstorms were forecast today but since it looked like the same forecast from yesterday and it that was a beautiful day I figured I'd try my luck again. Ride started with another climb and twenty miles into a good headwind. Pushed the pace on the way out and made the legs sing but tired on the second climb of the day up Wyncoop. The north end of Wyncoop has recently been oiled and stoned. Most of the stones have been pushed to the shoulder which required me to ride a little deeper into the road than I usually do but there wasn't any traffic so it really wasn't an issue. Rain started on the southern end of Wyncoop and I sought shelter in the Dandymart in Chemung. Ate some junk food and had a Doctor Pepper from a machine that didn't dispence any CO2 but the drink was cold and wet so it hit the spot. Started back out in a lull in the rain and made it about a mile before it started pouring again. Decided not to climb Jerusalem hill in the rain and headed toward a blue patch of sky to the south. Came back through Elmira via Maple Avenue and turned out okay as the construction has been completed and now there is a nice section of good pavement. Rode through Hood and admired the artwork of the east side youths sprayed on the boarded up stores. Caught a nice tailwind back down a dry SR 14 and did enough work to get my speed up to a 17 mph average which is a little on the low side for a hard ride but the rain didn't help.
