Did the Three Hill Ride today to work on my climbing. First Climb is Up Steuben St continuing up CR 16 by the track before descending into Monterey. Did fairly well on the lower steep section by standing up for the first quarter of the mile long section. Crested at 10.6 that is my best of the year. The next section is several miles long though the grade varies it is never very steep. There is a section of downhill after the track into Townsend before the climb finishes that provides some relief for the legs. Didn't do anything aggressive on this section just continued a steady pace to conserve my earlier climbing. Made the corner at the top at 12.5 far below my personal best but not bad for this century. After the downgrade to Monterey the second climb is on CR 22. It really isn't a hill just a long five mileDid the Three Hill Ride today to work on my climbing. After the downgrade to Monterey the second climb is on CR 22. It really isn't a hill just a long five mile rolling climb with a kicker at the top. Usually this is a fairly highspeed event but couldn't convince myself to push it too hard. Went over the top to probably the best view in the county. After a quick downhill and a short flat section the hardest climb of the day is up Sebring Hill. It starts out heading up Mud Lake road from Tyrone towards Watkins. Not sure why the hill is so difficult as it doesn't look too bad. It is a straight up climb of over a mile with not a turn to be found. It starts out gradually and the grade just keeps increasing into the teens before the top. Started out fairly well with a good spin but soon found myself bogged down and struggling when the grade bested eight percent. Noticed for the first time how hot it was and was sweating profusely. Couldn't keep the sweat from running into my eyes. Kept going on what had turned into a poor climb and actually started to feel a little better and speed picked up once the grade got over twelve percent. Finished with a 14.1 again that isn't one of my better times. Best part of the day was the last few miles of downhill on Mud Lake where it is fairly easy to maintain forty five. So had one good, one average, and one poor climb. Still got some work to do or some weight to lose to improve my steep climbing.
