 Even More Easy Climbing
Had another day of slow climbing. Legs aren't as sore as they were but still don't have much impetus to push the bike. Started up Havana Glen and stayed in the saddle. The steep section is getting easier each time but not really any faster. Plan was for a metric range four climb course today. Pretty much toured to the second climb up Arnot Forest but put some effort into the climb. The descent from the forest to Newfield had improved since last time as the loose stones have been compacted into the tar to provide a decent surface. Had good speed down but didn't slam it as I used to do in days of olde. Third climb from Newfield to Trumbles Corners isn't much of a climb compared to the other three but it has a little kick at the bottom. Had a little headwind on the climb but it was welcome as it helped with the body cooling and kept the sweat dripping to a minimum. Repeated the long grade across the Enfield junction to Trumansburg to avoid SR 79 that has a poor shoulder and heavy traffic although 79 has more entertaining terrain. Last climb was the six miles long grade through Searsburg. Did it in the big chainring today without much difficulty. After that it was a very enjoyable fifteen miles of tailwind and often fast descent. Stopped a couple times to adjust the rear derailleur as can't seem to dial it in right after the shifter came loose last weekend. Had some good climbs today but checked it against last month and it wasn't near as good time overall. Climbing was better and downhills were much faster but milked the connecting sections too much. Still have a lot of hard rides coming in July so guess it might be helpful to get some rest before the next big push.
