Took yesterday off to hopefully recharge but wanted to get a light ride in today as have a very challenging climbing race tomorrow in Liberty, PA. Forecast called for rain the entire day today but took the pup for a walk early and only had a few drops. I checked the radar and found that I had an hour and a half window that I could get a short ride in and at least make sure the bike was going through all the gears. Decided to go to Reading Center with two climbs and sixteen miles of travel. Hit a little light rain on the way to Watkins but really not enough to get wet. Did the two climbs and started to return on the back roads from Reading and the sky opened up. Salt was washing down out of my helmet causing vision problems in addition to the heavy rain. I also have carbon rims and rim brakes that are near worthless in heavy rain. I stopped and adjusted my brakes to make sure I was getting all I could out of them and still had to clamp down on them all the way and descent at a snail's pace as I would not be able to stop at the bottom of the steep descent that ends at a stoplight in usually heavy traffic in Watkins. It turned out to be most unpleasant. Rain let up a little on the way back to Montour but ended up with two soakers. Got home and decided to warm back up on the computrainer in the basement with a twenty-mile ride but got a flat after twelve miles. It just wasn't my day.
