After breaking a spoke on my Thurs night (not a commute) ride requiring me to call for pick-up, my commuter bike's rear tire is flat when I go to leave for work Fri AM. I know the tire felt a little 'gushy' at times on the ride home Wed, and I found a pin hole in the tube on the outside edge across from the stem. I patch it & confirm there is nothing in the tire (a new Specialized Nimbus w/Armadillo technology). I made it to work, then when it was time to come home, I get out to my bike & the rear tire is flat again.
I'm not really surprised - assuming the patch wouldn't hold well especially in the heat of today. I swap out the tube with my spare, air up the tire and as I mount the wheel on the bike, I realize the tire is flat again because my spare tube is a used one needing repair. I put a patch on the whole, this one also across from the stem, air it up and before I can get the wheel mounted on the bike it is flat AGAIN!
It is now 5:45, I have a 40 minute commute after/if I get the tire fixed and a 7:30 softball game to get to after I get home & change clothes. So, I call my wife to come pick me up.
I make it home by 6:30, to the softball field by 7:00 where we one our game 16-3. After the game, Jacque & I went to Fritz's for some custard with the Kneppers & Brischs. So the weekend is starting to look better already.
