Out to the SCTAC for the Spinners Tuesday evening ride. Like always once there I just took off and rode by myself. I'm not a group rider. I decided to be different tonight and once I was off Perimeter Road I went backwards around the big loop. So I met a ton of riders tonight! That was fun but I felt like I was riding into the wind no matter what direction I was riding. It seemed like a struggle all evening tonight! But it was still a good ride. Once back on Perimeter Road I rode counter-clockwise so that I would be facing the A and B groups instead of making them all pass me. I was about a mile from the golf course clubhouse when I met the police escort quickly followed by the leaders then the peloton. About 2/3 the way through the peloton I saw a bike right in the middle start leaning over then go down and take a couple of other bikes with him. Then the rest started running into and running over the downed bikes. They took down at least 10 or 12 bikes. The sound was sickening. I could hear metal and carbon fiber sliding on the asphalt and a lot of moaning and groaning. It was still a good ride, but I think that the loop backwards rides harder than going around normally.
