 Oh well.
I was on a tight time schedule to get home - hoping to arrive between 5:15 & 5:30, then turn around and leave by 5:40 with Jacque to go meet some friends for an Easy Riders evening ride. As I was passing along the east end of the airport, a kid (late teens?) was walking his bike in the opposite direction, on my side of the road. I asked if he was OK, he said his tire went flat because of a piece of glass a little ways back. I asked how much further he had to go, he said to St Charles Rock Rd - wow, that's at least 2 miles.

I look at the clock and I’m a few minutes ahead of schedule and now its going to tak more than a few minutes – oh well. I grab the tire levers and a patch kit out of one my bags and start to go to work. The rear tire is bolted on, so we have to deal with it while attached to the bike. A quick inspection of the tire didn’t reveal the glass, so I grab my pump and put some air in the tire to see if we can hear or feel it leaking out. Not much luck. Tried it again, with more air and he detected it in an area. I remove the tire from the rim in that area, pull the tube out and air it put again, and the young man spots the little slit. A few minutes later the patch is attached, the tube back in its place, the tire back on the rim, aired it up and he was off & rolling down the road!

I got rolling again myself, and made it home about 5:35, and 5 minutes later Jacque & I had the truck loaded and were heading out for our ride.

Then Jacque & I had a nice quiet ride around the Columbia Bottom Conservation area, where the Missouri River flows into the Mississippi. Didn't catch up to Paul, Jen, Bob we returned our vehicle and they were all pulling away. Paul & Jen stopped to tell us they were going to Del Leo's, and we said we'd meet them there.
