This is another ride that has been a few years since I've participated in. The route today was similar to what I remember, but had a few differences including avoiding the lime-stone paths in lew of country roads that criss-cross the paths - we still used a few sections of path that were asphalt paved. Plus, a few 'extensions' were added to the route making it a 70 miler, instead of a mere 65.
The weather was hot, but not oppressive, and once again I didn't take care of myself when it came to nutrition etc. and bonked and struggled the last several miles. I tried to stay hydrated, making sure of drinking often in the early portion of the ride, but even that was a failing point when I rain out of fluids 5 miles before a rest stop - thanks in part to skipping the previous rest stop. Jen Moffett was an excellent riding partner today - it always helps to have someone with you when things are going right. Just to prove my state of dehydration, after the ride I had some pizza w/Paul & Jen along with 4 glasses of Coke, and a couple glasses of water; even still when I got home I stepped on the scale weighed 3 lbs less than when I got up this morning.
Resting this afternoon, watching Stage 7 of Tour of California that I DVR'd 3 weeks ago, they working their way up to the finish of Mt Baldy.
