 Cayutaville & ITT

Morning ride was up Jackson hill to Cateherine then off to Cayutaville. Was climbing real well today as I had a really sweet spin. Didn't push the flats as I wanted to save my legs for a time trial later in the day. Love the climb up to Catherine but there was a tanker truck spraying liquid waste on the fields again. Not sure what they were spreading but it smelled like death. Got a lungfull and some must have soaked into my clothes as I would occasionally catch a whilff of it as I continued the ride. Lots of sweet climbing in a happy green world. Had a very enjoyable morning jaunt.

Afternoon ITT was sweet in a different way that was satisfying but not very pleasant. Wind was out of the North again but was a little stronger than last week. Started off stronger and faster than last week and had a faster time for the first mile, but was hammering this week rather than spinning. Was putting more energy into the system but could not keep my form as smooth as last week. Speeds didn't top 28 this week on the way up and was a little worried since last week I was topping out over 30 with less tailwind. Checkpoint times were coming in well and had a good time at the four mile point but then speed declined for the fifth mile again. Had a good turnaround and started out the backstretch with a 24.7 avg speed. Didn't hit as high a topspeed as I did last week but kept quite a bit of pressure on the pedals. Knew it was going to be close to my goal of a 26 mph average and really suffered the last two miles to the finish. Was actually helped by a couple of tractor trailers that passed me late in the ride. Had a little trouble in the curse as my speed dropped below 26 but sprinted the last quarter mile downgrade and got my 26.0.average with a 23:07 time. Had a strong ride and will have to work hard to repeat much less improve on it. Guess the next goal will be to break the 23 minute barrier which I haven't done in several years.
