 Swartout Descending
Rained early in the day and thundershowers were forecast for the afternoon. Waited until afternoon to ride when there was a two hour window of sun predicted and figured I could finish the course in two and a half hours. Worst case I had a 65 % chance of riding in the rain for thirty minutes which given that the temperature was in the ninties didn't seem such a terrible thing. Caught a tailwind to Horseheads up SR 14 and a pretty good crosswind out to Erin. Ride in this direction is an almost steady one-two percent climb for twenty miles then four miles of rolling climb to the top of Swartout Hill. Pretty uneventful day overall. It looked and felt very much like a thundershower was going to happen as I neared the top but after a screaming two mile serpintine descent of Swartout I appeared to have changed weather cells as it was a little cooler down in the valley. After the thrill of the descent I had to slog back through the rollers into a headwind on the way back to Odessa down 224. Finished the ride with another descent down Odessa hill and cruised down to Watkins.
