35.87 miles with our group. I rode from home to Cleveland Park where seven of us gathered to head up the trail. Ken, Steve, Don, Susan, Caren, Kevin, and me. The group fractured early and often. I kept getting shuffled from front to back and then to the front and paired up with several different riders. We ran into Ramona about a mile south of Furman, which increased the fracturing. Steve and Ramona didn't go to the north end with us, so 6 of us scofflaws rode the unopened section to White Horse Road Extension. We did the little climb up Tubbs Mountain where everyone stopped. I took off down the mountain, sat up on the descent, and soft-pedaled into TR but didn't see the group.
I headed on down the trail and stopped at the swamp Rabbit Cafe for a glass of tea. I was on my second glass when the group pulled in and Steve called to say that he was at the TD Stage. Then Ken said that he had to go to pick up Steve and the group left. It took me a couple of minutes to get ready to leave, so I was behind the group again. I figured that I would catch or pass them if I went through downtown while they were going through Falls Park, but when I was climbing the hill in front of the Peace Center I saw Susan stopped at the light at Main Street. There were four or five vehicles between us and after we passed Main there was a car backing into a parking space that scattered traffic. Susan was still up ahead of me and turned right onto Falls Street where I stayed straight on Broad Street. When I came down McDaniel to turn into the Park Susan crossed in front of me. I caught her as she pulled up at the zoo.
