Felt good after yesterday's climbing and thought it was a good time to make another attempt at the elusive eighteen on the Meckenlenburg course. Started out well up Old Odessa staying out of the saddle over the steep section and keeping a high cadence as the grade dropped below ten percent. Clocked a season best eleven five to the highway. Couldn't hold the speed up SR 228 though as leg speed dropped too much. Still made the top at twelve five which is normally a decent time. Picked up a decent tailwind and started to hammer hoping to make it to Mechlenberg in seventeen then attacking the second climb. Plan fell through when I got a nasty puncture and blew most of my pressure and sealant out of my rear tire after a mile of tailwind. Thought about heading back but had enough pressure left to protect rim though pedaling was significantly harder. Soldiered on and finished off the ride. Cut down Skyline to save a couple of miles and the traffic hassle of Watkins. Fun ride at the start turned to unpleasant excursion at the end.
