Felt better in the morning and wanted to get some miles in on the bike with the perfect weather but still didn't have much confidence in the back so thought I'd take two short rides in to minimize the suffering if things went bad. Started off with a ride up Johnson Hollow since it has one of the easiest climbs on any of my usual routes. Felt okay on the climb up the grade but it always seems slow compared to speeds on the same section experienced during the time trial. Kept a good spin and tried to keep the speed up in the tailwind section since the 'climbing' section would be into the headwind. Had a less than spectacular climb but the back held up and felt good about that. Couldn't generate any speed on the climb after the initial steepsection and struggled not to loose to much time. Didn't really get into the downhill section today as usually like to hammer the last seven miles of downhill but did go fast enough to keep the average up to eighteen which is fair for the easy course. Felt tired on the ride but did go relatively painless.
Afternoon ride was a little longer than the mornings twenty as the Ridge Road course is around twenty-six and has a few more hundred feet of climbing. First seven miles was the same as the morning ride and seemed to go much better the second time around. Had a decent ride to Horseheads with the help of the tailwind. Ridge Road out of Horseheads has a long moderate climb made up of three steps with the second one being the hardest for me as it looks easier than it actually is. First easy climb went pretty well and didn't loose much speed on it. Had some damage done on the second as the initial steep section took a little of the iron out of my legs and lost time on the false flat at the top of the climb. Picked up the speed on the false flats between the second and third climbs and had a golden moment as I was passing on the shaded twisting section. Actually felt good on the bike in the first time in a week and made the other bad days seem unimportant. Last climb went better and crested the hill overlooking Seymoreville in fairly decent shape. Hammered the last six miles of downhill I'd accumulated after twenty miles of climbing and finished feeling strong. Did a short ride to Watkins afterward to cool down. So not a bad day with one okay ride and one fun one.
